Storage Permissions
Some websites have the ability to store information, such as files, in your local storage, and these files can only be removed manually by you. This helps the website run faster and prevents information from being lost if you lose your connection.
What is Local Site Storage?
Local site storage allows websites to save information directly on your device. This can include:
Types of Stored Data
- Website preferences and settings
- Cached files and resources
- Offline content for web apps
- User-generated data
- Session information
- Application data
Benefits of Local Storage
- Faster website loading
- Offline functionality
- Reduced data usage
- Persistent user preferences
- Better performance
- Enhanced user experience

- Use session-only storage when possible
- Regularly clear browsing data
- Review site permissions
- Be selective about what you allow
What to Expect
When you manage storage permissions, you may notice:
Positive Changes
- More available storage space
- Better privacy control
- Improved browser performance
- Reduced data usage
- Cleaner browsing experience
Potential Trade-offs
- Some sites may need to reload data
- You may need to re-enter preferences
- Offline functionality may be limited
- Some web apps may not work optimally
- You may need to log in again
Technical Details
Local site storage uses various web technologies to store data on your device:
Storage Technologies
- LocalStorage: Persistent key-value storage for web applications
- SessionStorage: Temporary storage that clears when the browser closes
- IndexedDB: Advanced database storage for complex data
- Cache API: Storage for offline resources and assets
- Cookies: Small text files for session management
Understanding these technologies helps you make informed decisions about what data to allow websites to store on your device. Since Oasis is built on Firefox's core technology, these storage mechanisms work identically in both browsers.
